Okay, how did you sneak into my house and put them back in there?
-joke-

I would have sworn up and down they were not in there before. Now it is, including some of the backups I made, ie. copy, copy1 before! Sigh. It isn't easy being 67! :)

The settings files aren't in the app package, they are in application support. Open Finder and in the locations list on the left select your username/home folder. Now in the main window open the folder 'Library', then 'Application support', then 'HackSlashLoot', and finally 'Data'. The settings files can be found there. Remember, always back up your settings/save files before fiddling with them.

?? Well, I'm not that up to date on computer stuff. I'm luck if I even can turn the dang thing on! :)

I was searching all over the place for the xm. files I'd seen before and came across the game icon (which gets you into the game) I discovered I could "Show package contents" by right clicking. File there had "MacOS" file. That contained :
1. grey rectangle "HackSlashLoot"
2. "libstream_api.dylib"
3. "steam_appid.txt"

That's what made me think it was a steam version. I'm probably wrong.
Shrug. My 42 year old son's busy and he usually finds this stuff for me. :)

I just want to know where that xml file (save file???) went to.

[~/Library/Application Support/HackSlashLoot/Data - and tell me what files are there.]

was this directed at me?   The game does play alright. I just can't find the 'Data' files with the following:
Settings_bak.xml  Settings.xml  Snapshot. xml.

All I see in the new Data version are a whole lot of png pics.

"Show package contents-> Contents -> Info.plist, MacOS, Resources files -> Resources: Data and HackSlashLoot.icns (icon)

That message you just quoted was directed at the original poster, my reply to you was the other message. What makes you think you have the Steam version? There's no way to get the Steam version without having Steam installed.

Humm, my message disappeared.  I'll repeat roughly what I said. My original query did state I was using a MAC LAPTOP, not a PC or windows version. I need to find where the 'snapshot xml' files disappeared to. They are Not where they were in version 7. I don't know how I got the steam version, I just used the link you sent me email. :(

As I said in my query, I have a Macintosh laptop computer I play it on and a G4 Mac (I call a big box). I do NOT play the game on the PC partition on the laptop.  Hench my query as to how I got the steam version and it messing everything up!

Version 8 isn't on Steam yet and besides the Steam version stores the data files in the same place.

Navigate to - ~/Library/Application Support/HackSlashLoot/Data - and tell me what files are there.

Are you able to play version 8 ok or are non of the versions working for you now? Try downloading the update again, and see if that helps.

I thought I had moved the first version of HSL when I downloaded V8 to a safe spot on my laptop. When I unzipped it, it apparently contaminated (?) every version I had so that the little green icon had a circle and slash mark except for the latest one. I didn't notice that until today when I went to check out the xml data files where they were before. Nothing, couldn't find where they were. (I'm using my Mac laptop) and that's when I noticed that I had gotten the V8 from Steam, I've never gone to steam. Apparently the link I was given went straight to them! I then checked my old version and saw the circle/slash marks. Moved it to my big box Mac knowing I couldn't play it but wanted to look to see if the xml data could be seen. Nope.  Where is the 'Steam' version for Mac putting the data? Thanks. I can't even play the old version now with laptop messed up, even the zip file - which shouldn't be. Sigh. :(

I'll presume you have Windows. On my Windows 7 machine it is located in the folder - C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming - but it could be in a slightly different place depending on your windows version and setup. C:/Users - is the best place to start, then look for your windows username or admin folder, find the appdata folder, and then poke around until you find the exact location. The reason it's not in one place is that the game requests a location to put the save data from Windows, and Microsoft keep deciding to change the location that Windows will give you.
